Optimization of Web Service-Based Data-Collection System With Smart Sensor Nodes for Balance Between Network Traffic and Sensing Accuracy

Web services integrate various components in the Internet of Things (IoT). In a service-based data-collection system with multiple smart sensor nodes periodically sampling and estimating same unknown physical parameter interest, first submit their estimates to server, then, server picking one minimum error seems be practical way arrive at estimate (MEE). More submissions provide more candidates consider, which can maximize probability guaranteeing MEE, while also leading network traffic. Therefore, how make optimal tradeoff between traffic sensing accuracy arises as an interesting problem. This article proposes traffic-dependent threshold policy within intended underlying optimization-theoretical framework address this The is such that corresponding estimation errors (ECEEs) tolerable maximizing delivering MEE. Theoretical analysis, simulation, field experiments document illustrate its performance.
